Lockdown has become an unavoidable trend in both our personal and professional lives.
In July, we saw 50% of the population go into lockdown and you couldn’t help but resign yourself to the fact that it may happen again.
The industry has adapted swiftly and effectively to the ever-changing rules impacting our professional lives, but given how successful some of these adaptions have been, it’s time to consider if some of these changes are here to stay.
The top three adaptations I predict will stay with us long after COVID are:
- Virtual inspections and armchair viewings
Social distancing rules, lockdowns, stay at home mandates and local travel restrictions have all impacted consumers desire to step outside the home.
By ensuring that every property for sale or lease has a virtual tour and there is no reason why at least one routine inspection can’t be a virtual one. It’s actually a pretty cool way to connect with your buyers or tenants and makes interstate real estate purchasing a lot easier to access.
- Flexible workplaces
Flexibility isn’t just about working from home, it’s about choice. We all have different ways of working and if we can ensure that we provide our teams with a choice on what flexibility looks like for them and it works with the business, why wouldn’t we do it?
- Contactless options
We need to create processes within our businesses that enable our clients to choose contactless options.
So far, we’ve seen this with inspections, auctions and rental applications, and moving in and out of properties. Given the ongoing technological advancements in our industry, I’m sure there will be more activities added to the contactless option list as time goes on.
COVID has turned our lives upside down, but the way our industry has responded is just another reminder that we are resourceful, resilient and able to rise to any challenge thrown our way.
