The latest edition of Gallaghers Workforce Trends Report found that only 48% of the 2,600 people surveyed reported a high level of workplace wellbeing – that’s a decline of 4% since the 2022 report.
In a separate report from the University of Melbourne and YouGov, burnout was identified as a key takeaway with 50% reporting they feel exhausted at work.
These alarming trends are not limited to the personal impact of these workers, but also has a significant impact on a organisations bottom line.
While the reports demonstrate the deterioration of employee wellbeing poses a significant risk to business, they also note that this situation represents a ‘massive opportunity for organisations’ adding ‘the ones who make a concerted effort to improve employee wellbeing stand to reap strong business performance outcomes’.
As a starting point, employers are encouraged to evaluate the five factors that predict employee wellbeing including mental health, sense of purpose in life, physical health, the extent to which you can be yourself at work and psychological safety.
While listening to feedback is vital, it’s that coupled with an organisations willingness to take ‘targeted, meaningful action’ that really yields the best organisational outcomes.
