The recently announced right to disconnect legislation is likely to have far reaching impact across most industries, but in real estate where incentive-based remuneration is the norm, is it likely to change anything for us?
REEF CEO Bryan Wilcox has said he doesn’t see it having a significant change on the real estate industry. ‘While a salesperson will certainly have the right to disconnect under the new legislation, it would seem unlikely that in practice they would choose to exercise that right, as it is probably going to have a detrimental impact on their commission earning capacity’ he said.
It’s also not expected to have much impact on property management staff as there are already arrangements in place to compensate them for out-of-hours work. Another option is to better leverage the always-evolving real estate technology to handle out-of-hours enquiries and work.
